Random Thought for Friday, February 10th, 2017: Exhausted Dread Meh-Like Feeling…

Welcome to Friday’s Random Thought.

After last week’s post one would think that I would know better.  I am at the point that I think for lent this year, I will give up reading and watching main stream media.  When lent is over, I may not go back.

You see, what I am struggling with is not the fetid sewage that is the news as of late.  I just have a quandary. Back when I was a young student in school, our history class talked about the events leading up to World War II.  It was present like a bullet list in a modern presentation today. International lawlessness, muck racking, yellow journalism, etc..  The list goes on and on.

My question is this. Since the issues of concept of Yellow Journalism never stopped from before World War II, can it still be referred to in a historical context? History is supposed to be factual information about the past but if something started before I was born and continues to this day, is this still a historical element or a modern one?

For those who don’t understand what I am talking about, Yellow Journalism is defined as a type of journalism that presents little or no legitimate well-researched news and instead uses eye-catching headlines to sell more newspapers. Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism. Yellow Journalism, Yellow News, alternative facts, fake news.  It’s all the same thing. Recklessness for no other reason than to make money.

We were taught in school that this only applied to newspapers, television and radio.  Call me silly, but this seems to apply to all forms of media both on and off the Internet these days. Fake News is just one of the many scourges the human species is enduring. We as a species think we are very advanced and worthy of our place in the universe and yet we still lie to each other to sell newspapers or web pages with excrement.

I truly believe that there are life forms that exist in the universe other than what lives on our humble little planet. I truly do and if they are watching, they must be shaking their collective appendages that hold their brains in disbelief. If nothing else, all this garbage that is being peddled as news is just proof that the natural order of the universe has been twisted into a mess.

Look out for when the universe has decided that enough is enough. I can see the fake news headlines now, “Democrats Organize Planets in Solar System to Boycott Orbits” or “Republicans Pass Bill to Implode Sun.”

Given what we have seen in the past 18 months, this doesn’t seem like a stretch of the imagination, does it? Now you may understand why I am exhausted.

Happy Friday Everyone!
