Random Thought for Friday, July 24, 2015: Kepler 452b

IMG_20140419_111752Welcome to Friday’s Random Thought.

I have not been this excited about anything space related in a very long time.  In case you missed it, head over to http://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-kepler-mission-discovers-bigger-older-cousin-to-earth and read about this newly discovered planet.

Kepler 452 is a start in the constellation we call Cygnus.  Kepler 452b is a planet that for right now given what we know, could reasonably support Human life.

That in and of itself is huge news.  Of all the plants the Kepler program has identified, this is the closest comparison to Earth.  This means that 1,400 light years away there is a planet that Humans could colonize.  Of course, that also means that 1,400 light years away there is a planet that may support life similar to us.

So, anyone want to build a generational space ship and head over?

Happy Friday Everyone!
