Random Thought for Friday, June 19, 2015: The Chair

Welcome to Friday’s Random Thought.

Recently at home I’ve recently been going through things in my office and I’ve come to the conclusion that I need a chair.  I have a work chair at my desk and it does what I need it to do just fine.  What I am talking about is a good comfortable chair that I can sit in when I am reading through a draft of something I’ve written, while reading a book, reading on my tablet, etc…

I’ve looked at a number of options, even tried sitting on a few and then something strange began to creep into my mind.  Am I the first person to perform a sitting test on this chair?  Then something really strange crept into my brain.

What do you call the person who does the test sitting when a chair is being designed?

Yeah, I know, my brain doesn’t work right.  It’s a tad off.

So, what would this person be called?  Are they the “sit testers”?  That would be the simplest answer but my “stuck-in-traffic-yet-again-because-people-are-stopping-to-watch-a-squirrel-eating-an-Oreo-on-the-side-of-the-road” brain didn’t leave it there.

You see, job titles need to be grand.  I had a friend that worked at an Internet service provider for years.  He dealt with spam and other related intrusion attempts, network security, etc.  His job title in many other companies would have gone something like Network Security or Customer Security and Network Protection.  His job title?  Senior Abuse Engineer.

Yeah, a decade later and that one still makes be chuckle.

So, the person who tests sitting in a chair.  Cheek Pressure and Spread Containment Engineer?  How about Posterior Alignment and Placement Analyst.  Yeah, the potential here is staggering.

Happy Friday Everyone!
