Random Thought for Friday, January 27th, 2017: Words

Welcome to Friday’s Random Thought.

Words are powerful. Once spoken, they can not be returned to the void from whence they came.  Words can lift someone up or knock them down. They can inspire people to work to move mountains or oppress people into idleness and despair.

Every person has a responsibility when they use their words. We need to keep in mind that what we say and what effect those words will have on people.  Simply having the power of speech does not mean that we can wield it haphazardly.

We have to accept that if we are going to speak to people, whether a single individual or in front of a crowd, we are responsible for what we say. Words own you once spoken and define your image for others. Do you want your image to be that of a human being or the embodiment of rage and hate?

We need to ask ourselves, is this the world we want? Do we want to fight with each other? Does this help us as a person and/or as a people?  I would offer my words to answer that question.  Resounding words or more accurately a single word, No.

We need to start to treat each other as human beings again because at this moment in history, many of us are behaving poorly. Honestly I believe we have lost our way.   We don’t think anymore.  We reach out and cling to a world view without thinking anymore. When others offer a differing opinion, we call them names and vilify them. We smear them and bear false witness against them. We throw a tantrum and toss the toys out of the pram.

We need to think again as a people. We are better than this. We are smarter than this. We human beings have a greater potential than this. We the People, are imperfect but when we strive to be greater than ourselves, we achieve the limitless. We move mountains, we change the world so it begs the question, how do we become ourselves again?

Small moments. That’s all it takes.  You see someone in the grocery line in front of you who is short a buck on the til, offer to help. Open a door for someone. Let someone over in front of you when you are in traffic. Treat people the way you want to be treated.  Any of these things start the momentum. Don’t look to “leaders” to tell you how to change the world. We already know what we need to do.

Have the courage to be a human being because as long as we behave as the sheep we have become, we will herd ourselves into oblivion.

Happy Friday Everyone.
