Random Thought for Friday, November 7, 2014: Shan Yu

wpid-wp-1413824213598.jpegWelcome to Friday’s Random Thought.

I must apologize right now, I promised myself that I would forgo any discussions on politics as I’ve found such discussions are usually very divisive and can end up in a lot of hate being slung around, but this time, I just can’t be quiet.

Years ago I used to watch a wonderful SciFi show called “Firefly”, perhaps you have heard of it.  Yes, I was in love with this show as it was very good, entertaining and filled with wonderful characters.

One of the episodes, War Stories, I believe it was, had a wonderful quote that came to mind when I saw the results from the most recent elections here in the USA.  It’s a quote from the character Shepard Book concerning a fictional emperor Shan Yu.

“…fancied himself quite the warrior poet. Wrote volumes on war, torture, the limits of human endurance.”

“Live with a man 40 years. Share his house, his meals. Speak on every subject. Then tie him up, and hold him over the volcano’s edge. And on that day, you will finally meet the man.”

Why did this of all things pop into my head?  Well, aside from being slightly insane from working a lot of hours lately in the IT realm, something stuck me.

Why did the Democrats lose virtually every contest they were involved in this time?

Democrats will tell you it is because they usually do not fare well in a mid-term elections.  Historically, that is really not the case.  The exact opposite had happened in my lifetime more than once where the Democrats swept the mid-terms.  Do your own research, you will find that this statement is simply spin and yes, it has been used by both the Democrats and Republicans.

Republicans will say it is a mandate to stop President Obama, to reign in the Democrats and turn the country away from the present course.  This, while seemingly more plausible and I suspect was a driving factor, it is still not the entire story.

What happened is part of the beauty of our Constitution; that we can engage in such a civil revolution and yes, this was just that, a small revolution.  Nothing so grand as our revolt against Britain a few centuries ago, but still rooted in the came concept from another document, the Declaration of Independence.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

So again I ask, why did the Democrats lose virtually every contest they were involved in this time?

Simply, the American people are that roommate of 40 years of Shan Yu.

We are tied up and being held over the edge of the volcano.  We have come to the point that we are sick and tired of being sick and tired and we want things fixed right now.

It is why the Tea Party and Libertarians are gaining traction in this country.  The Democrats and Republicans have their established records of success and in the past 30 years of failure.

We have taken our collective dose of Fukatol and voted with our hearts and minds.

We have changed the landscape of Congress and of many of the governor seats of many states not due to loyalty to any one political party but rather in an effort to “throw off such Government”, to end the stagnation of our economy and the continued rise of invasive control of our lives.

Will it make a difference this time?

Only time will tell and I will say this as many people are thinking it. If things do not improve, I can see the first Tea Party controlled Senate, Libertarian controlled House of Representatives and the first independent President being elected within my lifetime.

I wish the Republicans well and I hope they listen to the American people this time.

I want for things to get better and yet part of me would love to see my prediction come true.  Tea Party and Libertarian candidates not only seem to understand what needs to be done, they are actually doing it.

Who knows, Ted Cruz might even be the Senate Majority leader.  It would certainly be interesting…

Happy Friday Everyone!
