Random Thought for Friday, December 2nd, 2016: NaNoWriMo Over

crest-05e1a637392425b4d5225780797e5a76Welcome to Friday’s Random Thought.

Oh my…what a month.  I’ve worked very hard and the good news is that I finished…early.  I’ve got this story that’s over 50,000 word long and now I have to begin the editing process.

Yeah…I hear myself saying the following…..WUT ARE WERDS?

I have my work cut out for me.

Random Thought for Friday, December 4, 2015: Editing, Editing…Seppuku with a Spork?

JournalCupWelcome to Friday’s Random Thought.

Well, #NaNoWriMo2015 is over. Yup, I won! I did it! I broke the 50K barrier on November 27, 2015. It’s on to editing and I know that is a thing that many writers loathe a bit.

Editing is that process where you polish up that work of love you just spent days and night creating. That’s what we tell ourselves as it is also that time when you realize that the word star for example does not contain that many iterations of ‘z’ and ‘q’. You also learn that the really cool name you came up with for a character is not consistently spelled correctly across 140 some odd pages.

Editing is just part of the writing process and I will be busy working on the my next book, It Began Among the Stars. Release date? Well, got to edit it first.

If you want to keep up to date on my next book, tidbits or leave about giveaways first, sign up on my mailing list.

Speaking of giveaways, I’m giving away 3 copies of Fragmented in Kindle format in December. To enter the giveaway simply sign up for our mailing list. Winners will be picked at random on December 11th, 18th and on Christmas day!

And on a more somber note, please keep Cliff Calendar in your prayers.  He was a friend and coworker of mine and past away after a tough fight with cancer.  Cliff buddy, we will miss you!

Happy Friday Everyone!

Random Thought for Friday, November 6, 2015: GE’s Message?

IMG_20140505_085058Welcome to Friday’s Random Thought.

Today’s thought was sparked by a commercial I saw recently on TV put out by GE. To understand what I am talking about, take a moment and click on the link, watch the video and then come back here.

What’s the Matter with Owen? – “Zazzies” – GE

Welcome back. The commercial itself is fine.  It’s a play up of work that GE has been doing for years and they want to strut it about.  That’s all fine but what I found humorous and down right sad is that these folks were more interested in this worthless “Zazzies” app than Owen’s new job.

So what is the message GE is trying to send? “We change the world while Owen continues to make poor choices in friends?” or “Wow, look at all these people who have no clue about what we do and they look so stupid!”

I don’t understand what the message GE is trying to send but I do feel a bit insulted by these commercials.  They don’t create a positive image of people, they make Owen look like he is socially inept and surrounded by idiots.

Can someone tell me how such a presentation makes one feel good about GE?  I’m struggling here.

On a different note, today ends the first week of NaNoWriMo and I’ve kicked it a bit.  I’ve got 7,000 words done already and I’ve got a lot more to do.  So, enough blogging and Interneting for me, back to the story!

And lastly this week, I’ve started a mailing list for those of you who want to be in on special items. Things like new book releases, exclusive short stories and tidbits.  I’ll be sending out a newsletter once a week with something.  If you like free eBooks, you may want to sign up as I’ll be sending out free copies of my books in December. Nothing like a free read during the holidays!  Head over to the Sign Up page for details!

Random Thought for Friday, October 30, 2015: NaNoWriMo

JournalCupWelcome to Friday’s Random Thought.

For those of you who do not know, November is National Novel Writing Month. NaNoWriMo is a wonderful resource that connects writers all over the world and challenges them to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November.

I’ve never participated as I’ve always had “excuses”. Last year, the excuse was I was elbow deep in the editing process for Fragmented.  This year, I am taking the plunge.  I have most of outline done, revised it a bit, added more details and what not and I am gearing up for this year’s fun.

I am looking forward to this and if you feel an itch to write, perhaps you should check it out too.  That story won’t write itself, you have to put the pen to paper or in my case, fingers to the keys.

I just have to make it through this Halloween thing and there is that daylight savings time stuff this weekend too not to mention all the laundry I need to do….yeah, excuses are already building.  Kidding.
